The ‘launderette’, Varansi

IMG_0501-1b

I knew that the Ganges was a place for bathing, worship and for sending the dead on their way, but I had never anticipated that it would be a commercial laundry too! Not only do people come to wash their personal effects here but large-scale laundry is also done, especially as now is the wedding season. The jigsaw of  various cloths laid out to dry is fascinating to behold.
